Is Victoria Real Estate Going Green? Green home-buyers catch a break from CMHC

According to the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), homes account for more than 17 per cent of energy consumed in Canada. Advising clients to purchase energy-efficient homes, or to make energy-saving renovations, can result in big savings for them.

A ten per cent refund on CMHC mortgage loan insurance premiums may be available when CMHC-insured financing is used to purchase an energy-efficient home or make energy-saving renovations. In addition, energy-efficient home-buyers may qualify for longer amortization periods (up to 40 years) without surcharges.

For more information these incentive programs, visit CMHC’s website.
